Founded in 1996, TBCSA unites top tourism businesses and associations to engage the South African government in driving sector growth. Here are our member associations:

AASA

The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) is the leading representative airline organisation within Southern Africa, working together with leaders of the aviation industry and senior public and government officials on policy, regulatory, planning, operational, safety, security and financial matters affecting the overall profitability of the airlines and their continued sustainability.

AASA was established in 1970 to represent the mutual interests of its members. Membership is open to all airlines based in countries south of the equator, including the Indian Ocean Islands. AASA also leads and coordinates the airline industry position on airport, airspace and civil aviation issues, as well as consumer legislation, environmental and tourism matters, and provides media response to important industry issues.

AASA’s responsibility includes the representation of SADC-based airlines on the SADC Civil Aviation Committee as the Airline Consultative Member. AASA is also a regular participant and contributor to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) initiatives in the region. With AASA’s focus concentrated on any issue impacting the airline business, the regular liaison and good working relationship with its members and partners is highly valued.

Custodians of Professional Hunting and Conservation South Africa

The Custodians of Professional Hunting and Conservation (CPHC-SA) was founded in December 2017 with the aim being to raise the integrity of the professional hunting industry by maintaining a high ethical standard and to engage with conservation NGOs` and the scientific community to find common ground on which to secure the future of hunting.

In addition, emphasis of the association is placed on transforming the industry to be more representative of all the people of South Africa as this is essential to secure the long-term future in this country.

PHASA

PHASA is the only Professional Body mandated by SAQUA (The South African Qualifications Authority) to represent the Professional Hunting Industry.

PHASA is a member-based organisation that promotes and protects our members’ rights to legally hunt and earn a living, thereby protecting sustainable use for all lives and livelihoods.

PHASA is also involved in Hunter and Sustainable use Advocacy in various National and International Forums.

SAVRALA

The Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) is the trade body for companies engaged in the leasing and rental of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Founded in the 1970s, SAVRALA represents South Africa’s combined vehicle rental, leasing and fleet management industries.

SAVRALA is the representative voice of Southern Africa’s vehicle rental, leasing and fleet management industries. We have a combined membership base of over 38 of South Africa’s top rental and leasing companies representing approximately 600 000 vehicles. SAVRALA is instrumental in steering industry standards, serving to raise the professional profile of the collective industries.

We continuously strive to protect both our members’ interests, and those of the public, and are therefore widely respected within corporate and government sectors. Our members recognise the benefits of interacting competitively but cohesively for the common good of the industry. One of our key objectives is to persistently address issues pertaining to the industry as a whole in order to ensure the industry’s long-term sustainability.

Drakensberg Experience Tourism Association

The Drakensberg Experience Tourism Association promotes and markets accommodation and tourism-related activities in the Drakensberg mountains, a region world-renowned for its stunning vistas and beautiful sunny skies. We showcase the best the Northern Berg, Central Berg and surrounds has to offer – from amazing accommodation options to the ultimate adventures, activities and exciting places to visit and explore.

Our members’ establishments extend from Hidcote in the south to Sterkfontein Dam in the north, including towns such as Estcourt, Winterton, Bergville, Weenen and Geluksburg, and cover the area up to but not including the towns of Colenso and Ladysmith.

ASATA

The Association of Southern African Travel Agents (ASATA) is a representative forum that promotes professional service in the travel industry for its members and their clients.

Representing over 90% of the travel industry in terms of market share, ASATA’s membership is voluntary and includes South African retail travel agents, travel management companies, wholesalers and suppliers of travel-related products and services. ASATA’s focus is to maintain the professionalism, sustainability, and credibility of the travel industry.

BARSA

The Board of Airline Representatives of South Africa (BARSA) represents the interests of its international, regional and local member airlines and ground handlers to government, airport operators and stakeholders in the airline industry.

Our aim is to facilitate and further develop a safe, efficient and viable aviation industry in South Africa. BARSA provides a single concerted voice on policy and other matters in relation to government and other stakeholders in transport, business and tourism

FEDHASA

The Federated Hospitality Association of Southern Africa (FEDHASA) is South Africa’s trusted association for the hospitality industry, representing all segments and all establishments under one banner and with one voice.

FEDHASA speaks for the individual, as well as the collective, while offering expertise and guidance born from a long-standing history and established track record. FEDHASA was established in October 1949 as an umbrella association to represent its members across the sector, lobbying the government on their behalf, and championing change.

SABOA

The Southern African Bus Operators Association (SABOA) was established in 1980 as a non-profit, member-driven association focused on creating a transformative and sustainable bus and coach industry in South Africa.

The association plays a key role in the transport policy formulation process and is an active and credible participant in the consultative platforms of government. SABOA is committed to representing the interests of its members and its lobbying, research, education, and empowerment initiatives.

The association through its long-standing involvement in public transport has become known as the voice of the bus and coach industry.

VOASA

The Vacation Ownership Association of South Africa (VOASA) is the non-profit, self-regulatory trade association and collective voice of the timeshare vacation ownership industry in South Africa.

The Association was established in 1990 as the Timeshare Institute of Southern Africa and was re-branded the Vacation Ownership Association of Southern Africa in 2007.

In 2021, Southern Africa in the name was changed to South Africa. VOASA is a member-driven association representing developers, resorts, exchange companies, holiday clubs, timeshare owner associations and body corporates, managing agents, sales brokers, rental agents as well as industry suppliers.

SA Wine Routes Forum

The South African Wine Routes Forum is a voluntary non-profit organisation that serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, wine tourism marketing and development, setting service standards, etc. for 20 wine route representatives.

The wine route representatives, along with co-opted members Wesgro, Wines of South Africa (WoSA) and South Africa Wine, meet every two months and serves as a powerful mechanism for the development and implementation of an industry wine tourism strategy.

Rendzo Network

Rendzo Network is a national network of independent travel and tourism operators in South Africa, harnessing the power of collaboration and digital enablement to collectively enhance international competitiveness, market access and resilient growth. Our name is derived from the Xitsonga language and means journey, tour, trip.

CAPE TOWN TOURISM

Cape Town Tourism is a leading destination marketing organisation (DMO) that works tirelessly to shine a global spotlight on Cape Town. The DMO recently launched its landmark Find Your Freedom interactive travel experience, which uses game-style graphics and choice-driven AI to inspire international friends to choose Cape Town for their next adventure.

Whether you’re the fearless foodie, urban adventurer or nature warrior, the Mother City is the perfect place for the trip of a lifetime. Cape Town Tourism knows that successful tourism is imperative to bolster resilience in the visitor economy. It’s also a wonderful way to build pride.

The DMO works closely with communities and local businesses to showcase their offerings to the world. Its primary goal is to use tourism as a means to empower its partners to take their businesses to the next level. Proudly South African, it follows the principles of Responsible Tourism and Fair Trade.

NAA-SA

The National Accommodation Association of South Africa (NAA-SA) is the premier national representative body of guesthouses, bed-and-breakfasts and self-catering accommodation providers; a not-for-profit organization for the members, by the members. We understand the value of offering personal and quality services that is part of every traveler’s personal journey. We work to unlock the full potential of this integral service provided by smaller accommodation providers, which form the backbone of South Africa’s Tourism Industry.

Smaller accommodation providers are often family or partner owned businesses, that provide personalized quality services to create that “home away from home” experience. These businesses become part of most travelers’ journey, and create memorable experiences of their travels.

It is therefore most important that accommodation establishments adhere to strict standards and norms – ensuring quality, reputable services and value for money. SME accommodation providers form the backbone of the South African tourism Industry, which is an important pillar of the South African economy. It is therefore important for these businesses to have an organization that helps members to become more visible, provides a voice, and helps them grow.

SATSA

Established in 1969, the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (SATSA) is a non-profit membership-based tourism industry association that offers inbound tourism services companies the highest level of quality in the tourism industry. At SATSA, we strive to maintain our three key qualities in all of the work we do: credibility, value and authority.

As an organisation, our members undergo a strict admission process that ensures peace of mind for those who seek to do business with credible tourism partners. SATSA members are required to sign a strict Code of Conduct and are required to submit updated documentation annually.

SATSA further provides support to members who require key services and benefits on a local and regional level, and at international trade shows. The organisation also lobbies issues associated and affecting the inbound tourism industry.

WRSA

The Wildlife Ranching South Africa (WRSA) is the national wildlife ranching organisation comprising of individuals in the wildlife industry. WRSA’s strength lies in its members including land owners with an interest in game: game ranchers, professional hunters, hunting outfitters, taxidermists, game reserves and mixed farmers.

As the acknowledged and official mouthpiece for wildlife ranchers, WRSA regularly liaises with government departments, provincial nature conservation authorities, scientific institutions, and NGOs to address and discuss issues pertaining to wildlife ranching.

These collaborations include inputs regarding legislation, permit systems, scientific research and findings, etc. WRSA provides an immeasurable but absolutely necessary services to every wildlife rancher.

The South African Short Term Rental Association (SASTRA) is a unified industry body dedicated to representing and advocating for the interests of short-term rental hosts, owners, and stakeholders in South Africa. SASTRA aims to ensure that its members, continue to operate in a manner that is aligned to National Tourism’s objectives and regulatory framework, and benefit local economies and environment in which they operate, whilst ensuring a stable and sustainable benefit is earned by its Hosts, employees, trade partners and others reliant on the industry.

SASTRA provides a collaborative voice when engaging with Government, policymakers and industry stakeholders and partners, as well as offering education, resources, and networking opportunities to promote industry growth and professionalism.
