INTRODUCTION
As the world continues to grapple with the outbreak of the Coronavirus, the pandemic has also had a profound impact on the tourism sector. The South African tourism and hospitality industry has since developed comprehensive protocols to ensure continued operation of all types of tourism businesses and facilities in times of the pandemic.
These official protocols guide tourism businesses to operate in a safe environment for employees, suppliers and tourists alike visiting and utilising tourism facilities and establishments. Aligned to the latest regulations and directions, and benchmarked against international best practice, these protocols have been approved by an epidemiologist.
Based on the comprehensive nature and strength of theses protocols, the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Global Safety Stamp of Approval was issued to South Africa as a safe destination and the TBCSA was given issuing rights to the WTTC Safe Travels stamp in South Africa.
A free Travel Safe – Eat Safe certification programme has been developed for South African businesses to adopt the protocols. It encompasses a centralised registration system and app as well as comprehensive training for businesses and staff. This page not only allows Business Owners, CEO’s and Health and Safety Managers to download documents and ensure that all protocols have been observed, but it also increases customers confidence around safety concerns.

TBCSA PROTOCOLS
The Protocols remain a live document, adjusted continuously in line with the risk-adjusted economic activity allowed, the pandemic status and published regulations and directions.
