STRATEGIC PROJECTS

The TBCSA does not only SPEAK on behalf of the private sector, but also plays an active role in galvanising tourism businesses into action. Through Public-Private Partnerships and collaboration with its members, the TBCSA has been at the forefront of initiatives that are geared towards addressing some of the sectors` challenges.

TOMSA

TOMSA: Raising funds for the collective promotion of destination South Africa

The TBCSA administers the collection and promoting of the Tourism Levy South Africa (TOMSA). TOMSA is a private sector initiative established in 1998 aimed at raising additional funding for the promotion of destination South Africa both locally and internationally. Since its inception, TOMSA has contributed over R900 million rand to the active marketing of the country and currently makes up 10% of South African Tourism`s annual budget.

Tourism Safety Initiative

Tourism Safety Initiative (TSI) is a tourism safety information portal and trade support programme for the travel and tourism industry. It is a private sector initiative and a vehicle through which we aim to address safety and security challenges affecting our industry. The main objectives of the TSI are to empower business to prevent and manage issues of safety and security, to apply pressure on government and law enforcement agencies to address crime in the tourism industry, and to provide a national safety advisory and support service for tourists. Subscribe to the Tourism Safety Initiative Today!

Tourism Business Index

Tourism Business Index

TBI is a quarterly performance-monitoring tool, initiated by the TBCSA in 2010, to track business performance in the industry. The index reports on changes or expected changes in demand and profitability which are expressed relative to the expected normal levels of trade for the relevant period. An index score of 100 is regarded as an indication of normal levels of trade. When the index shows performance or prospects below 100, this indicates worse than normal performance.

TBCSA Tourism Career Guidance

TBCSA Tourism Career Guidance

Skills development is a critical issue in South Africa and is one of the key strategic areas where the tourism private sector aims to make a meaningful contribution for the benefit of the country as a whole. Following the initiative of hosting the annual National Tourism Careers Exhibition, the private sector has decided to take the project a step further by hosting provincial Tourism Career Guidance Workshops. The workshops are targeted mainly at students already in tertiary institutions and aims to change the perception that tourism cannot be taken seriously as a career option. Invitations are also extended to high school career guidance and life orientation teachers.
