TSOGO SUN BUCKS GLOBAL TREND IN REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN ITS WORKFORCE
Tsogo Sun is bucking the global trend in the representation of women in its workforce, with 53% of its 14 500 employees being women. This focus is also strongly reflected in the fact that 45% of Tsogo Sun’s management, as well as 39% of its executives and senior leadership comprise of women. This makes senior women leadership at Tsogo Sun substantially higher than the national average of 29% as is reported in the 2017 Grant Thornton International Business Report.
These figures were presented by Candy Tothill, Tsogo Sun’s GM of Corporate Affairs, at a ‘Women in Business’ lunch at Southern Sun Hyde Park in the week. Under the theme of ‘Own your throne’ Tsogo Sun in partnership with Proudly South African hosted the event that provided an opportunity to officially acknowledge and celebrate women in this Women’s Month.
Through its Citizenship portfolio, Tsogo Sun also uplifts women in empowerment programmes that include Tsogo Sun Entrepreneurs. The initiative supports 200 businesses across South Africa, 164 of which are women-owned. Tsogo Sun also runs the Miss Earth leadership development programme that empowers hundreds of young women to become environmental youth ambassadors and role models in our society.
