GOVERNMENT PUTS MEASURES IN PLACE TO COMBAT CRIME AT OR TAMBO INTL. AIRPORT
In the week, Police Minister Fikile Mbalula met with SAPS management, State Security and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Departments to discuss safety and security challenges at OR Tambo International Airport. The meeting resolved to revise strategies and put measures in place to combat the recent hike of crime to hit (and be related to) the airport. These include:
- People working at the airport will be vetted and rotated to curb corruption
- An intensified tactical response and increased police / security personnel
- Mandatory searching of employees entering and leaving the airport

The Minister also sent out a stern warning to criminals, saying that the police stand ready to fight and that the new security strategies are not seasonal but permanent.
