NEWS FROM RECENT CABINET MEETING
The most recent Cabinet meeting was held on 15 February 2017. A notable highlight from the meeting was the Cabinet approval of the National Airports Development Plan and the White Paper on a National Civil Aviation Policy.
The aim of the National Airports Development Plan is to guide and support overall network planning and develop the infrastructure of individual airports; whereas the White Paper on a National Civil Aviation Policy will ensure civil aviation safety and promote the development of the aviation industry to compete on an international scale. Other highlights from the meeting include:
- Cabinet reiterated the President’s call to intensify efforts aimed at driving radical transformation and its implementation
- Cabinet applauded all social partners at NEDLAC on the agreement of a National Minimum Wage of R20 an hour, effective no later than May 2018
- Cabinet welcomed the increase in jobs in the economy over the 4th quarter of 2016, which created 235 000 jobs largely in the transport and manufacturing sectors
- Submission of the Draft Marine Spatial Planning Bill for 2016 to Parliament, which will provide a legal framework for joint sector marine spatial planning and management.
