TSI UPDATE: FOLLOW-HOME ROBBERY INCIDENTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
As members would be aware, incidents of follow-home robberies are once again in the spotlight following several media reports in this regard. As the TBCSA Secretariat, we will continue to issue TSI safety and security alerts and urge members to download our monthly TSI reports for further details in this regard. Furthermore, we wish to assure members that we continue to monitor developments in this regard and engage role-players on our concerns, particularly on the issues around the incidences of follow home robberies through the Tsi Liaison committee. Our most recent meeting involving members of the Travel and Tourism; ACSA officials and the SAPS was on 24th May 2017.
From a TBCSA perspective, we have made contact with the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Services (SAPS) and other stakeholders including SA Tourism and the NDT. We also already made contact with the Office of the Tourism DG regarding the issue.
We can also report that the Tourism Minister has already requested to meet TBCSA and discuss, amongst others, our concerns around safety and security affecting our sector.
We will continue to provide feedback to members.
